Winter Animals and Advent

This week we did a little something different and we continued the letter W because we couldn't miss out on learning about Winter Animals. Usually we spend 1 week on each letter but we decided to extend this one since W is such a fascinating letter. We learned about Penguins, Polar Bears and Walrus.

Once again we had another Wild and Crazy week with a the Christmas Program on Wednesday and the Christmas Bazaar and Shop on Friday, but we just rolled with the punches like we always do. Being flexible is one of the skills we are working on down in 4k land so it it important for us teachers to also be flexible.

We started off our week by learning a little more about penguins and we learned that most penguins live where it is hot and we learned that Emperor Penguins can be as tall as a 4 year old. We decided to test this and we measured ourselves next to an Emperor Penguin (don't worry it was just a very life like replica I drew with some colored pencils). We decided to use this information to make our very own little penguins.

Fun Fact: Did you know a Polar Bear has black skin and their fur is actually clear?!?! So they actually look a little yellow instead of true white. The snow that surrounds them is what makes them look white.
The More you know people!
I guess some polar bears have long luscious eyelashes too.

Now that we are in the season of Advent we needed to do something to help us count down to the special day of Jesus's Birthday. We made Advent Wreaths with the numbers 1-25 on it and each day we write the number or numbers if we need to make up for the weekend and we locate those numbers on our wreath and add the berries on. Everyone has done an awesome job writing their numbers each day and they are so excited to reach the big day!

For jobs this week we started off working on a number workbook to continue working on our amazing number writing skills.

We used a 12 sided dice to roll and locate the number on the fish and color it in.

We made a lowercase w walrus.

And last but not least everyone worked on their ABC order skills by placing their Alphabet Penguins in order.

We had 1 more special surprise Friday. Corinne's daddy came to visit and read The Grinch!

I hope everyone is getting ready for the dazzling display of Christmas spirit their eyes will view next Friday! My friends have been working so hard on learning all of our Christmas songs and they have been jingling their little hearts out!!!!
